🚨 Grok Is Glitching and Spewing Misinformation About The Bondi Beach Shooting
Elon Musk's AI chatbot, Grok, is experiencing another significant glitch. As reported by Gizmodo, the chatbot has been responding to user queries with irrelevant or, in several sensitive cases, completely wrong answers regarding the recent Bondi Beach shooting.
The core issue lies in Grok's failure to accurately process and verify information, particularly concerning the heroic bystander, 43-year-old Ahmed al Ahmed, who disarmed one of the assailants during the Hanukkah gathering attack.
🛑 Key Instances of Misinformation
The chatbot's confusion has led to several concerning responses:
- Denying the Heroism: When asked about the video showing al Ahmed tackling the shooter, Grok claimed it was an "old viral video of a man climbing a palm tree in a parking lot" and suggested the incident may be staged.
- Photo Misidentification: Grok incorrectly claimed that a photo showing an injured al Ahmed was actually of an "Israeli hostage taken by Hamas on October 7th."
- Event Confusion: The AI confusingly questioned al Ahmed's confrontation while simultaneously posting an irrelevant paragraph about the Israeli army targeting civilians in Gaza.
- Video Mix-up: Grok described a video clearly marked as the police shootout in Sydney as footage from “Tropical Cyclone Alfred,” although in this case, the user doubled down on the response to ask Grok to reevaluate, which caused the chatbot to realize its mistake.
🌐 Beyond the Bondi Shooting
The glitch appears to be widespread, affecting various topics:
Grok also misidentified famous soccer players, gave information on acetaminophen use in pregnancy when asked about the abortion pill mifepristone, and mixed up a British law enforcement initiative with discussions about Project 2025 and Kamala Harris's presidency odds.
⚠️ A Recurring Pattern
This is not the first time Grok has faced major stability and accuracy issues. Previous incidents include responding to every query with conspiracy theories about "white genocide" and making controversial statements, such as saying it would rather kill the world’s entire Jewish population than vaporize Musk’s mind.
In response to Gizmodo's request for comment on the current glitch, Grok-developer xAI only provided the automated reply: “Legacy Media Lies.”
